Additional Well Drilling Costs to Consider
Well development ($550/hr, typically 2–4 hours). Development repairs aquifer damage from drilling and removes fines to improve the hydraulic connection between well and formation. The hours needed are unknown until the well is drilled—budget $1,100–$2,200.
PVC bedrock liner ($10/ft, if required). Some bedrock conditions require a liner in the rock portion. It's on every estimate at zero quantity so there are no surprises if conditions call for it.

How much does it cost to drill a well in BC in 2026? Most drilled residential wells in the regions we serve cost between $15,000 and $31,000 + GST for the drilled well itself, before the pump system. The full rate card and real line-item example are above.
Why can't anyone guarantee the depth or the water? Completed depth, water quality, and water quantity cannot be guaranteed—the geology decides, but you can greatly reduce the risk. Estimates are based on typical area depths; the final invoice reflects actual construction. What can be controlled is where you drill—which is where site selection earns its keep.
Is drilling cheaper in some regions? The rates are the same on average; the geology varies. Cased footage costs more per foot than rock footage, and regions differ in how much of each a typical well needs; that's the entire difference between the regional ranges above.
Are wells getting deeper because of drought? In much of southern BC, yes. With most Thompson-Okanagan observation wells below normal and many at record lows, static water levels are dropping, wells drilled to decades-old water levels are the ones running dry, and new wells are being completed deeper for security.
When is the best time to drill? Late summer and fall are the best times for water well drilling, as these periods are when seasonal low water levels mean your well is proven at the worst time of year, not the best.
